Allowed One Wreck

- Kathy Cash Tittle

Rodney told this story to us when we had a bell ringing at Dad's house on June's birthday. I may not get it exactly right, but it was pretty funny.

Years ago, when Rosanne and Rodney were first married, they had been at Dad and June's for a while visiting.

One day, Rodney was driving Dad's black Cadillac, and took a curve on Caudill a bit too fast. He ran the car into a ditch and hit a tree.

(Dad had always called that curve "the ROSE curve") because Rosey AND Rosanne had each wrecked his cars at that same curve at one time or another.

Rodney sheepishly told Dad he wrecked his car and offered to pay for it. Dad said, "No, I'll take care of it THIS time since you're new to the family and that curve is a magnet for my cars."

A few days later, Rosey had Rosanne, Rodney and a few other people out on Dad's boat. She wrecked it pulling into the dock and damaged it pretty well. Rosey BEGGED Rodney to take the blame for it because she had already wrecked a few other things and she was still in a bit of trouble.
Rodney reluctantly agreed, because Dad didn't get upset with him over the car.
HIS FIRST MISTAKE.

Rodney went into the house and told Dad he wrecked the boat. Rosey was looking around trying to avoid Dad's face, and act like she was an innocent party.
Dad looked straight at Rodney, and said, "Son, you're allowed one wreck, but two in one week is not a good thing. I'm going to give you the privilege of paying for my boat to be fixed."

Rodney simply said, "yes, sir."
And paid for Rosey's wreck.
